Welcome to Decoding Data Literacy, a video series that takes a close look at some of the trials and tribulations of running a data literacy programme with the hope of sharing some useful insights on how to overcome them.
In this first episode, Joshua Brindley, Data & Analytics Manager at GEMS Education starts looking at why we struggle with data literacy. According to Data Leaders, only 13% of organisations have a mostly data literate workforce and Gartner reports that only 21% of employees feel confident in their data skills – so literacy certainly seems to be a big sticking point for the vast majority of companies. But why?
Joshua explores some of the common misconceptions that exist around data literacy that, if not tackled, can quickly turn into frustration. He will then start to unpack how they can be addressed using methods to embed behaviours for good – and not just until the end of the course.
